Ellen loves words and has been an avid reader all her life. Her diverse life experiences include a chemistry/math major, librarian, college algebra
teacher to math-phobic adults, elementary teacher, and elementary art teacher. Writing for pleasure caught her unaware. As she described her
experiences as a summer Ditch Rider to her husband, Paul, he urged her to write them so others could enjoy what she saw. The Ditch Rider Poetry
collection is growing. Ellen also now co-authors a fortnightly history column in The Local with Paul.
Her Poetry:
Repast
Mosquito had a picnic
in early morning light.
The meat was juicy
and just right.
Deer fly came by
on his daily flight.
He joined mosquito with
a big appetite.
They enjoyed each
and every bite
while feasting on me
with obvious delight.
After the Rain
One silvery raindrop
lingers on a pine needle,
shimmering in clean air,
a crystal pendant
suspended in space.
Then drops.
Plop!
